Haïdara first joined Salzburg in summer 2016 from JMG Academy Bamako in his homeland of Mali but was loaned out to Liefering for the duration of his debut season in Austria.

Since returning to Salzburg, he has established himself as a key figure under manager Marco Rose, making 41 appearances in all competitions this season.

Mauricio Pochettino is believed to see Haïdara as a future star and thinks he can mould his potential like Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Eric Dier, who are all excelling in north London.

The Austrian club have had previous with central midfielders from Mali, handing Naby Keïta his debut in European football before subsequent moves to RB Leipzig and Liverpool.
