On Wednesday, Tomás ‘El Jefe’ Boy was named the new Chivas manager.

“I think it’s possible that we make the Liguilla. Chivas cannot suffer, Guadalajara is the most important and popular team in our country, we can not ignore that.”

The Chivas directors hired Boy to save them from relegation or paying a 120 million peso fine to stay in Liga MX, which would occur at the end of the 2020 Clausura if they finished with the worst points-per-game average of any team over a three-year span.

Currently, Chivas are just one point above Querétaro in next year’s relegation table, while Veracruz will reset back to zero after they pay the fine, which they have made clear they intend on doing.

Boy had a similar mission at Atlas, so he’s used to being in this type of situation.

“I’m not an Atlas icon, I had to manage them and I did it in the situation where I was hired to save them from releagtion.

“I’m used to taking hot potatoes, I think this team is above that.”

Chivas will play under Boy for the first time on Saturday when they travel to face Monarcas.
