Chivas manager Tomás Boy says Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat at Necaxa occurred due to a trio of harsh injury blows to some of the better players on the squad.
‘Chofis’ López, Michael Pérez and Alexis Vega all suffered knocks and after the match, Boy gave his honest assessment.
“We must recognise that, sometimes, these things happen. This means that we are still not good enough to be a good team, because if we can not solve these situations, then we’re not going to go far in the league.
“The departure of Chofis López (who came off in the 17th minute), who is very important in the team for the operation, caused us to play differently with another boy (Alan Cervantes), who has other types of characteristics.
“In the matter of Michael Pérez; he is returning and had a very good week of training. But two mechanical situations in his movements caused him to suffer some pain.
“He tried to work through it, but in the end, he couldn’t go any longer (at the hour-mark). He told me to leave him in a little more, but there is no way I could and he’s difficult to replace.”
Alexis Vega surprisingly did not earn the start but Boy revealed that he had suffered a sprained ankle in warm-ups. Vega entered in the 78th minute but couldn’t make the difference on the night.
“These are circumstances that one has to know how to solve, because you don’t expect three of your best players to have those problems (injuries) all at once.”
Chivas will attempt to rebound on Saturday when they travel to Mexico City to face Cruz Azul.
