Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva is not the guaranteed starter he once was.

The Brazilian was left out of PSG’s Champions League game against Real Madrid just over a week ago and is well aware the clock is ticking on his career.

Now, one of his main priorities is guiding younger players, like his future replacement Presnel Kimpembe.

“I try to help all the time,” Silva said in an interview with This Is Paris.

“I have more experience, I’ve played more big games so I give advice, but that’s not all. The quality is there!

“It’s not easy for a young defender to progress like he has done. (Kimpembe) has really shown a huge potential and I’m happy for him.”

At 22, Kimpembe is the future of the PSG defence, along with 23-year-old Brazilian Marquinhos.

The latter has even captained the side at times lately and is another player Silva has taken under his wing.

“I’m also an example for Marquinhos as well so I just have to keep working hard and keep helping both of them as much as I can. The rivalry, the competition for places, that’s all part of football.”

Now approaching the end of his career, Silva concluded by suggesting he’s already planning when he will hang up his boots.

“I’m 33 years old, I have two more years to play, then it will those two who take the reins and lead the team forward.”

Until then, he’ll be helping the two youngsters slowly take more and more responsibility.
