Seattle Sounders caused a big stir by upsetting the defending champions on the road Wednesday night.

Goals from Will Bruin and Handwalla Bwana were enough to cancel out Jonathan Osorio’s 40th-minute effort to take Seattle out of the basement and up to eight points on the year (2-2-4).

Toronto FC shockingly fall to 2-1-5 and will have to make up ground in the East as they already find themselves 15 points behind Atlanta United.

Both teams came into the match riddled with injuries, as Seattle was without Jordan Morris, Victor Rodriguez, Roman Torres, Nicolas Lodeiro and Harry Shipp.  Toronto FC missed Jozy Altidore, Nick Hagglund, Drew Moor, Chris Mavinga, Justin Morrow, and Eriq Zavaleta.

Magnus Wolff Eikrem came up with a couple pieces of beautiful skill before an inch-perfect assist to Will Bruin gave Seattle a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. The Norweigan chopped the ball under Michael Bradley and nutmegged his defender before putting Bruin through on goal.

TFC leveled just before the break when Giovinco chipped Sounders keeper Stefan Frei and found the head of Jonathan Osorio to slam it home into the empty net.

The Sounders’ Handwalla Bwana became the youngest player in club history (18 years, 319 days) to score a goal as Bruin slipped him in behind the TFC defence to fire home the winning goal in the 54th minute.

TFC held a 24-9 shot advantage and 68 per cent possession, but will have to try again Saturday when they travel to New England. Seattle will head to Portland for the Cascadia Cup this Sunday.
