In the 2018 Liga MX Clausura Liguilla quarter-finals, Pumas were handed a beating by rivals Club América – as they gave up three goals in the first 38 minutes en route to a 4-1 first leg rout in front of their home fans.
Any hope Pumas had to make a big comeback in the second leg was quashed almost immediately as Matheus Uribe scored four minutes into América’s 2-1 win in the second leg.
However, Pumas midfielder Andrés Iniestra insists that the club is on a different level this time around.
“They are very strong matches. We are both coming into this match in very good form. We played very good in the quarter-finals.
“At the end of the season, they were one place above us in the standings and are now labeled as the favorites, but we are not a worse team and we can win.”
“This isn’t about revenge, we want to beat América every time we face them, not because they beat us.
“We have more desire to beat them, we always want to beat them, it’s a clásico. ”
The first leg will take place on Thursday, with the return leg at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday.
