América manager Miguel Herrera has been more self-critical than ever in the midst of adversity.

With Oribe Peralta, Mateus Uribe, and Jérémy Ménez all out injured, the defending champions have lost their last two Liga MX contests and four of their last six games in all competitions.

With the club currently in 11th place on nine points with a game in hand, Miguel Herrera commented on how well Nicolás Castillo and Nicolás Benedetti have adapted to life at their new club.

In addition, Herrera praised Andrés Ibargüen for being able to compete fresh off a bout with appendicitis.

“Both physically are very well. Both came from competition, and both Nicos did well.

“Ibargüen already had three weeks of preseason; they [Nicos] had to make the best of a tough situation.

“Obviously, failure will lower your spirits, even more than fatigue. I did not see them do anything wrong.

“We need to get back to the basics, you can not gamble the game to make a simple pass.”

Herrera then went on to admit that he made the mistakes that resulted in their last two defeats.

“At León, I risked too much. I gave them a lot of space to hurt us. Maybe I messed up the team.

“Pumas want to get more players forward, but I was wrong the week before, and in hindsight, I would have focused on our counterattack.

“We should have put Henry [Martín] in before looking at anyone else.”
