A new released book claims that Liverpool offered Philippe Coutinho to Real Madrid in a deal that included Gareth Bale.

The Reds will have sent Coutinho and cash to Los Blancos in exchange for the Wales international.

According to the book ‘PSG: Revelations of a Revolution’ – which focuses on Neymar’s record-breaking transfer to the French club, Liverpool made the offer knowing that the Brazilian playmaker preferred to join Barcelona.

The attempted transfer will also have been motivated by Jürgen Klopp’s desire to sign Bale.

The book published by Brazilian Edicinoes Amphora claims Klopp is a “massive admirer” of Madrid’s winger.

The transfer was set to happen last summer, but it was rejected by Real Madrid.

The back-to-back Champions League winners would have passed on Coutinho in hopes of landing Kylian Mbappé

At the time, the French striker was Zinedine Zidane’s side main target. Florentino Pérez was even willing to use Bale in the transaction to acquire Mbappé.

Basically, Liverpool’s offer of over €60 million plus Barcelona’s main target was turned down by Madrid for nothing, as they ended up empty handed when Mbappé signed with PSG.

Which paved the way for Barcelona and Coutinho to get what they wanted: the Brazilian’s transfer to Camp Nou, which became a reality last January.
