Paris Saint-Germain are in talks with Vitória Setúbal over the Portuguese club becoming a satellite team for the Ligue 1 giants.

The Portuguese newspaper O Jogo initially reported last week that PSG had been in contact with the Setúbal-based side, with them becoming a farm for Les Parisiens brightest young talent.

Unai Emery’s men had looked at Malaga, Belgium club Eupen and Orléans in Ligue 2, but have instead opted for the Liga NOS outfit.

Since Angelo Henrique joined PSG as sporting director last summer, the club have been looking for potential partners but with his contacts in the Portuguese game, Vitória have seemingly moved to the front of the queue.

And that was something the president Julio Mendes confirmed to ESPN over the weekend.

“It is a subject that has been spoken about for a long time, which came out publicly against our will,” said Mendes. “It is a question of building a project that is aimed at making us more competitive.

“There will be a meeting held outside of Portugal soon, with [majority shareholder] Mario Ferreira present, to complete the agreement. I will not reveal what is being discussed — these are questions that you will have to ask the directors.

“Regarding the players, they could even arrive in the form of full transfers. If they come on loan, they will strengthen our ability to fight for titles. We will not be saying no [to any players]. Football is played at a global level.”

Vitória are currently 16th in the Primeira Liga, just two points off the relegation places.
