The Crew lose their third in a row, NYCFC and Atlanta play to a thrilling 2-2 draw, and the Red Bulls roll.
Hereâs what we loved from Week 7:
With United struggling, they turned to second-string goalkeeper Steve Clark for some new energy and boy did he deliver. Clark made five saves against his former Columbus Crew, where he started 100 matches in three years, including a magnificent save on a point-blank Gyasi Zardes free header that somehow didnât cross the line. His force led United to their first win of the season.
The Jamaican defender started his run from just inside his own half and made his defenders look absolutely silly before roofing one near-post. This helped pace the Timbers to a 3-2 win over Minnesota United.
Honorable mention: Jeisson Vargas (Montreal Impact), see above.
Gleeson wins the Onefootball honor for the second week in a row, coming up with this beauty that left Miguel Ibarra questioning life.
How do you come back from a disappointing CONCACAF Champions League exit? Put on a show in front of your home fans. The Red Bulls dominated from the start and put a whopping 11 shots on goal to keep Impact keeper Evan Bush busy the entire afternoon. Young designated player Kaku scored his very first MLS goal, a spectacular one at that, to send the crowd into a frenzy. NYRB is ready to show the MLS they are ready to win a title.
The Crew take this âhonorâ for the second week in a row, after allowing DC United to sneak out with a 1-0 win. Columbus surrendered a goal just 44 seconds into the match and didnât allow another shot on target â outshooting United 24-5. Despite 70% possession and being a man up for the last 40 minutes of the match, the Crew were unable to get it done.
Columbus has now lost three matches in a row after looking like one of the best teams in MLS, going undefeated in their first four. Theyâve outshot their opponents 55-15 in their last three and have only scored one goal in the process.
