Game of the weekend 🙂

New York Red Bulls v NYCFC

After losing the first four Hudson River Derby matches, NYCFC have gone 3-1-1 in their last five games and come in as one of the best teams in MLS, sporting a 6-2-1 record and leading the way with 20 points.

The Red Bulls 4-0-3 record doesn’t tell the whole story, as they opted to invest their time and resources into the CONCACAF Champions League, where they were ousted by eventual champions Chivas in the semi-finals, despite looking like the better side.

Both teams come in sporting speedy, young, and deep lineups and should both be contenders for the Supporters’ Shield and the MLS Cup.

Expect fireworks.

Honorable mention: LAFC – FC Dallas

Potential upset 😢

LAFC are off to a hotter start than they could have imagined, sporting a 5-0-2 record after playing their first six matches on the road. They opened up Banc of California Stadium with a 1-0 stoppage-time win over the Seattle Sounders and will have the momentum heading into this one.

FC Dallas are coming off of their first loss of the season, a 3-1 defeat away to NYCFC.

FCD boasts one of, if not the best defence in the league and LAFC looked very vulnerable last week before scoring via a goalkeeper mistake. LAFC made some moves mid-week, signing Adama Diomande from Hull City and trading for former MLS MVP finalist Lee Nguyen from New England.

I believe FC Dallas bring back their defence this week against a team that will have to shuffle their attack after losing Marco Ureña to facial fractures.

Honorable mention: Chicago Fire over Atlanta United

Keep an 👁 out for

Atlanta’s ‘fearsome foursome’

Last week, Atlanta United fans finally got a taste of all their lethal attacking options [Ezequiel Barco, Josef Martinez, Héctor Villalbla, Miguel Almirón] playing on the same field simultaneously for the very first time. Tata Martino may elect to start all four this weekend at Chicago.

Atlanta’s already in the hottest form in all of MLS, going unbeaten in seven after an embarrassing 4-0 opening day loss in Houston, scoring a whopping 21 goals in those contests.

Could they get even better?
