It’s not like he was ever going to say otherwise.
On Wednesday, Miguel Herrera stepped up to the mic ahead of their Liga MX Clausura first-leg tie against rivals Cruz Azul and proclaimed the defending champions should be favourites to win it all again.
“I think so (we are favourites) because of what our history says,” he said in an interview with Televisa Deportes.
“We have to prepare for the game, then you have to play it. The story of each game is different.”
Herrera then went on to say that América did not meet his expectations for the regular season, as his side finished in fifth place on 29 points.
“We are the first to not be completely satisfied because we have always said that we must earn 30 points, that the team must be among the best four.
“29 points is not bad… but in the Liguilla, you find your form, you have good games, and you end up raising trophies.”
After Thursday’s first leg, the return fixture will take place on Sunday.
