His career as a player has only just ended but Michael Carrick already has big plans for the future.

The former midfielder will join José Mourinho’s backroom staff at Manchester United this summer but he is not content with stopping there.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, Carrick admitted he will be soaking up as much as he can from Mourinho.

“José is one of the best and I obviously know the club and manager and will be learning off him, trying to bring the kids through and have an influence on that,” said the 36-year-old.

“It makes sense to try to pick people’s brains as much as I can. So I will certainly be doing that.

“If I get into it and I think I would like to manage, probably at this stage my answer would be ‘yes’.”

Excitement is already gathering among fans and within the club, with the Daily Star going on to say there is a buzz at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground, where Carrick and former team-mate Ryan Giggs are considered candidates to eventually replace Mourinho at the club.
