Mexicoâs U-21s put on a dominating display during the opening day of the 46th edition of the Toulon Tournament, racing out to a four-goal lead to ease past Qatar.
Diego Lainez, the 17-year-old Club América starlet, opened the scoring after just two minutes for El Tri, finishing a fantastic cross from Uriel Antuna, currently at FC Groningen on loan from Manchester City.
Santos Laguna product Eduardo Aguirre, currently on loan at second-division Tampico, added a brace before half-time to give Mexico a 3-0 lead.
Roberto Alvarado, who just secured a move to Cruz Azul from Necaxa, scored a fourth after the break. Mexico dominated possession and chances throughout and looked in control from the beginning.
Qatar would get a consolation goal late through Abdullah Murisi. Mexico joins England at top of Group A, as the Three Lions defeated China 2-1 earlier in the day.
