After seven seasons in Europe, Mexican international goalkeeping legend Guillermo ‘Memo’ Ochoa is expected to return to Club América.
The starting goalkeeper position is up for grabs after Agustín Marchesín was sold to Porto last week. Marchesín has admitted he feels Ochoa is the right man for the job.
Discussions are currently ongoing between América and Standard Liege representatives and it’s believed a deal could be struck as early as Tuesday evening.
Ochoa has had a number of offers from European clubs in recent weeks, which includes Serie A outfits Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Lecce, as well as Spanish sides Real Valladolid and RCD Mallorca.
According to Belgian sources, Ochoa will be offered a three-year deal and make $4.4m (€3.9m) annually.
It has been a rough few weeks for Miguel Herrera’s side after losing both Marchesín and Mateus Uribe to Porto, while Edson Alvarez departed for Ajax and, over the weekend, Nico Castillo fractured his fibula.
