Luis Fernando Tena lamented his side’s poor finishing after Chivas fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Cruz Azul on Saturday.

Jonathan Rodríguez put the visitors ahead in the ninth minute before Alexis Vega levelled from the spot for Los Rojiblancos.

However, Adrián Aldrete put Cruz Azul back in the lead three minutes before half time and La Maquina managed to hold on to collect all three points.

Tena said a lack of accuracy in front of goal, coupled with the performance of visiting goalkeeper Jesús ‘Chuy’ Corona, combined to deny Chivas anything from the game.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Tena said: “Today was the lack of aim. The team played well, with enthusiasm and determination, went forward and we came across a great goalkeeper.”

The 62-year-old insisted he saw enough to suggest Chivas will turn the corner soon.

“When you see a team like that, you know it’s a matter of time to start picking up on the table,” Tena added.

Uriel Antuna had the best chances for the hosts, but he endured a torrid night in front of goal.

However, Tena had sympathy for the left winger and backed him to come good.

“If Antuna had so many goal options it was for something,” Tena said.

“It means that it closes well, that he knows how to get where the ball goes, and yes, he had bad aim, but I do not doubt that in the next games the goals will fall.

“We will continue seeing him in the 11 starter and will end up being an idol of the fans for his great conditions as a footballer.”

Chivas lie a lowly 12th in the table following their second defeat of the Clausura. They travel to face Club Tijuana on Friday.
