On Wednesday night, Chivas dominated Xolos but still left the Estadio Akron defeated by a score of 1-0, as Ariel Nahuelpan scored the game’s only goal with Club Tijuana’s only shot on target.

Despite 23 shots, the Guadalajara-based outfit did not put one past Manuel Lajud and after the game, manager Luis Fernando Tena admitted that he believes their Liguilla chances were over.

“We needed the points to stay alive, hoping to qualify, but we left empty-handed. We felt that we at least deserved the draw,” Tena said in his post-match press conference.

“We are very hurt, the players are in the dressing room very upset, because leaving empty-handed is the worst thing that could have happened.

“We’ve failed our fans who supported us throughout the game. Their response was extraordinary throughout the game and the players fought hard from start to finish.”

With three games to play, Chivas are five points behind eighth-placed Pumas, who also have a game in hand.

With relegation very much in play, they will finish the season with three important matches against Santos Laguna, Querétaro, and Veracruz.
