Andrea Barzagli has agreed to stay at Juventus for another 12 months and will officially sign an extension to his current deal in the coming days.

That’s according to Sky Sports Italia, who say Barzagli – who turns 37 in May – has opted to stay with the Bianconeri until June 2019 rather than leave on a free transfer in the summer.

And Juve hope Barzagli’s fellow defender Giorgio Chiellini will join him in committing his future to the club by accepting the offer of a two-year extension to his current deal, which expires in June.

Barzagli joined Juventus in 2011 from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for a fee of just €300K. He has since made over 250 appearances for the club, winning six consecutive Serie A titles, and will likely stay at the club until after his 38th birthday.

Chiellini, on the other hand, has been at Juventus since 2005 and looks set to end speculation linking him with a move to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City by penning a new deal that could keep him in Turin for the remainder of his career.
