This weekend’s important duel between Chivas and Cruz Azul could represent a huge turning point in the season for the Guadalajara-based outfit.

Chivas have only won a single competitive match in 2020 so far and captain Jesús Molina knows that Saturday is a golden chance to impress their home supporters – who haven’t seen them play since blowing a late lead against Toluca three weeks ago.

“It is important for us to understand both the things that we do well and the things that we are not doing,” Molina said.

“We have to be self-critical and know that many of us are not at our best right now.

“It is a great opportunity against Cruz Azul to reverse this situation, especially since we have not been at our best during the last two games.”

Molina understands that manager Luis Fernando Tena’s job is potentially on the line and the 31-year-old says it’s up to the players to make sure he stays in charge.

“We have to back him up with good performances on the pitch. That is the way we can individually and collectively support him.

“We must depend on ourselves and our operation to get the result at home and to show the best version of ourselves.

“This is something that we have not done so far and that has affected the team.”

Last season, the two sides played out to an exciting 1-1 draw at the Estadio Azteca.
