América clinched their place in the Liguilla last week and could finish as high as fourth with a victory at winless Veracruz this weekend.

Despite being fully fit, Miguel Herrera has previously slammed Jérémy Ménez for not showing the heart and desire that warranted his place and the team, so it’s no surprise that he revealed the soon-to-be 32-year-old did not travel with the squad.

“Jérémy is not on the roster and of the 18, only Luis Reyes comes in and Paul (Aguilar, suspended) leaves; the others are the same,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

However, he didn’t use his effort as an excuse, rather that he didn’t have room in the squad for another foreign player.

“It has been even. Today he has trained well. I have 11 foreigners and Nicolás Benedetti is out. I have 10 left and I can only take nine.

“I have no problem with him. On the contrary, I have a good relationship with him and we get along. We will be focused on the Liguilla and who to select for 22-man squad.

“If I need it, it must be ready.”

Ménez is rumored to be leaving the club this summer, though his contract expires at the end of the year.

The Frenchman has only made four appearances since returning from a torn ACL, totaling 101 minutes.
