Javier ‘Chofis’ López has not featured for the senior team at Chivas de Guadalajara since January.
While rehabilitating from a knee injury, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder spent the past few weeks playing with the youth team.
On Saturday, López returned to the starting lineup in a friendly for José Cardozo against Zacatepec at the Agustín “Coruco” Díaz Stadium.
Chofis scored the ultimate match-winner in the 68th minute on a pass from José Van Rankin.
20 minutes later, the midfielder set up Michael Pérez to seal the victory.
Putting some attractive sequences together without Mexico national team call-ups Isaác Brizuela and Alexis Vega should assuage some of the recent concerns of Chivas fans.
A high-functioning Chofis López could drive the squad forward when they resume their quest for a Liguilla place against Pumas UNAM on 31 March.
