Chivas haven’t clinched a place in the Liguilla in five seasons but Isaac Brizuela believes that their reinforced side can immediately start competing for titles.
Since Ricardo Peláez took over as the club’s new director of football last month, Chivas have spent over $50m bringing in seven new players, while exciting young talent José Juan Macías has returned from his León loan.
With América looking to claim their record-extending 14th Liga MX title this week, Brizuela has made it his goal for Chivas (12 titles) to reclaim the record while he’s at the club.
“I think that it (América and Rayados) is a good final,” Brizuela told Fox Sports.
“Speaking of this side (of Chivas), we will try to get closer to América’s number of titles in the upcoming tournament.
“I know that with this team, we can be there and compete with América again. They may have the most titles now but we may soon hold the record again.”
Chivas will begin the season at home against FC Juárez on 11 January.
