Whenever a player is benched for a big game — whatever the reasons — rumours of that player’s departure from the club are bound to spread quickly.

That’s exactly what has happened in the wake of Paulo Dybala’s benching against Inter on Saturday.

Italian media speculated about a potential rift between Dybala and his manager, Massimiliano Allegri, after the Juve boss left his number ten out of the starting line-up.

The Juventus CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, added fuel to the fire when he confirmed that Dybala was not pleased about the move.

And on Sunday, two separate reports from CalcioMercato indicated that Dybala could be moving closer to the exit door in Turin.

One, reading into Allegri’s comments saying that “those who do not run can not play,” suggests that Allegri is actually looking to push Dybala out.

Barcelona are an obvious destination and have been linked with the Argentine in the past but in another article, CalcioMercato claim that Real Madrid are also actively monitoring the situation.

They believe that Juventus are now hesitating on a new contract offer for Dybala and Madrid could be ready to pounce if it looks like a deal won’t happen.

It’s only natural that when top players suffer a dip in form, speculation ramps in overdrive.

However, if the rumours persist when Dybala does start playing well again, then it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
