Cruz Azul coach Pedro Caixinha has called for his club to be more like former side Rangers.

Caixinha was in charge at Ibrox for a disastrous eight months where he infamously oversaw the humiliating Europa League loss to Progres Niederkorn.

The 48-year-old is now in Mexico but has admitted a fondness for his time in Glasgow.

“In Mexico there’s a tremendous passion for football and for teams, but they make themselves present only when teams are doing well,” he told reporters.

“Every club has its idiosyncrasies, but before I came to Cruz Azul I was at Rangers, who had been demoted to the fourth division.

“They have a marvellous stadium, called Ibrox. The stadium was full with 50,000 supporters, that shows the passion that you have for a club in the circumstances they found themselves in.

“The players at this institution and club play for their fans, and as a result it’s important that the fans turn out to support us from the outside and make the team stronger.”
