Corinthians and Grêmio verbally agree to Luan deal | OneFootball

On Friday, Corinthians took an enormous step in rebuilding for the 2020 campaign, verbally agreeing to a deal to bring star Grêmio midfielder Luan to the club.

According to GloboEsporte, Corinthians will pay Grêmio R$22m (€4.8m) for 55% of the player’s economic rights.

Luan, who grew up as a Corinthians supporter, will sign a four-year deal, which will expire at the end of 2023.

While the three parties all verbally agreed to the deal, a formal announcement will not be made for a few days.

In addition, there is still a possibility that Grêmio ask Corinthians for a player in return as a bargaining chip, which would also lower the final amount Corinthians would pay for Luan.

New Corinthians manager Tiago Nunes had asked the club to make Luan their number one priority for the 2020 season.

Since 2014, Luan has scored a total of 75 goals in 288 matches for Grêmio. He has helped the Immortal Tricolor win the 2016 Copa do Brasil, the 2018 and 2019 Campeonato Gaúcho, the 2018 Recopa, and the 2017 Copa Libertadores.

In 2017, Luan was named the best player on the continent.

For the national team, he helped Brazil win their first men’s football gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

He has also earned a pair of caps with the Seleção.
