Though Richard Sánchez is excelling in the defensive midfield position, Club América want to play with a double-pivot once again this season.

Now, it seems they could turn to a Copa Libertadores champion to fill the gap left by Guido Rodríguez.

According to reports out of Brazil, Paraguay international Robert Piris da Motta is set to leave treble-winners Flamengo and has already sent some of his belongings back to his native country.

The 25-year-old, who Flamengo purchased from San Lorenzo in summer 2018 for €3m, was a constant part of the Flamengo starting XI until Gerson’s €11.8m arrival (a Brazilian record fee for a Brazilian player) pushed him onto the substitute’s bench.

Now, with the imminent arrival of Thiago Maia from Lille, the player would likely be surplus to requirements.

With Copa América 2020 coming up, Piris da Motta is looking to force himself into the side by playing consistent first-team football for a huge club.

The player, who started twice at Copa América 2016, has only featured once for his national side since November 2017.

With Club América having plenty of money to spend after Rodríguez’s departure to Real Betis and the player’s desire to play for a big club, this deal is looking more likely than not.
