Paul Aguilar is undoubtedly an América fan favourite, but at 33 years old, it’s time to start thinking about the future.

América could consider putting 21-year-old Jorge Sánchez in his natural right-back role to replace the 54-time Mexico international and instead bring in a reinforcement at left-back.

Sánchez has been very impressive in 2019 and, after featuring in four friendlies, earned his first competitive cap for Mexico in last week’s 5-1 Nations League win over Bermuda.

That left-back América will reportedly go after in the winter window is Nexaca’s 22-year-old Cristian Calderón.

América have previously attempted to bring in Calderón but Necaxa have been reluctant to sell amid additional interest from Chivas, Cruz Azul, and Tigres.

Calderón made his El Tri debut against Trinidad and Tobago earlier this month and also went the full 90 minutes against Bermuda last week.

Aguilar has featured an unbelievable 306 times for América in his career, winning seven trophies since arriving from Pachuca in 2011.
