Henry Martín broke the dead-lock for the home side in the 33rd minute.

Left-back Jorge Sánchez sent in a cross and the 26-year-old Mexico international forward powered his header past goalkeeper José Antonio Rodríguez.

In the second half, the visitors came out to force an equaliser while attempting to maintain a solid defence.

Former Mexico international striker, Lobos manager Francisco Palencia introduced Brazilian Yago César to replace Michaell Chirinos to effect that change.

Unfortunately for the visitors, they could not force the turn-around but they did manage to stifle América’s attack for much of the second period.

Nicolás Castillo underlined the superiority of the Águilas late in the match.

In the 83rd minute the Chilean forward picked up a loose ball and hit a heavy right-footed shot past Rodríguez to the far post for his first goal as an América player.

Despite the personal milestone and sealing his team’s victory, Castillo’s celebration was rather subdued.

Sebastián Córdova entered the match as a substitute in the 81st minute for Ibarra and set up Castillo’s second in the 89th minute.

Córdova passed to Castillo for a shot from a similar spot but the former Pumas striker opted for the near post to score a double against Lobos BUAP.

The emphatic win moves América up to 12 points after playing seven matches in the Clausura 2019. Saturday’s victory marks an important success after two consecutive losses in the league.

Lobos BUAP remain on 10 points after matchday 8 and wallow down in 11th place in the Liga MX table, though Pumas and Toluca could both overtake them on Sunday.
