Away from the pitch, one of the biggest stories of the season thus far has been ‘Pocho’ Guzmán’s indefinite suspension after the revelation of a failed drug test while with Pachuca last season.
Chivas agreed to pay $10m for the player and have already received their initial payment of $2m back from Pachuca.
For now, Guzmán is once again a Pachuca player but faces a lengthy ban that could be as long as four years.
However, everything could change if Guzmán’s ‘B’ sample comes back clean. In an interview with journalist Gabriel Tamayo, Chivas president Amaury Vergara admitted that he would try to bring the 24-year-old back to the club.
Tamayo said on the Líderes del Rebaño podcast that “in the event that the test is negative and the image of Guzmán can be cleaned, Chivas will do everything possible to bring Guzmán back to Guadalajara, even in this same tournament.”
He also added that Vergara has no idea how long the process will take but that they hope he can come back to Chivas this season.
