Right-back José Carlos Van Rankin has started nearly every Liga MX match for Chivas since joining the club on loan from Pumas last summer and, according to reports from Mexico, they want to sign him to a permanent deal.

Despite criticism from Chivas fans, they will reportedly exercise their option to buy the player, which will cost the club around $2.5m (€2.25m).

Van Rankin has started 32 of their 33 Liga MX contests, scoring two goals and contributing two assists to the cause.

With their first signing of the summer nearly finalised, Chivas will now have to determine who will be named manager for the 2019 Apertura campaign.

It appears that despite winning just one game since taking over, it appears that short-term manager Tomás Boy is currently the favorite to lead them into next season.
