Chivas sporting director Mariano Varela confirmed on Friday that negotiations with León for José Juan Macías have come to a screeching halt.

Chivas want $15m (€13.5m) for the forward and are not willing to bargain with his loan club despite heavy interest.

The 19-year-old joined León on loan in January and stunned all of Liga MX by scoring 10 goals in 16 league matches, leading his side to the Liguilla final.

With six months remaining on his loan, Varela seems confident that the player will return to the club.

“[León] want him and they must pay to get him,” Varela explained.

“15 million (dollars) is worth it and if they don’t think so, he’ll return to Chivas in six months.”

When asked if they were asking too much for the teenage sensation, Varela was adamant that Chivas wouldn’t budge in negotiations.

“No, today José Juan Macias is worth 15 million. In the next six months, we will see whether León or Pachuca will pay.”

If Chivas fail to make up ground in the relegation table in the Apertura, Macías could have a significant role to play in the 2020 Clausura tournament.
