A little more than 48 hours before the Clásico Nacional between América and Chivas, Tomás Boy has officially been sacked.

The news comes two days after Chivas let a 2-1 lead slip at home, losing 4-2 against Pachuca. The club has won just once in the last seven weeks.

Though his firing will come as no surprise to anyone, many suspected that he would last at least until Saturday’s Clásico.

Tomás Boy, who came to replace José Cardozo and help Chivas in their fight against relegation, leaves Chivas with a very poor record of four wins, two draws, and eight losses in 14 Liga MX matches.

Luis Fernando Tena, who led Mexico to the 2012 Olympic gold medal, has taken over effective immediately. Tena was last seen at Queretaro in 2018 and won titles with Cruz Azul in 1997 and Monarcas in 2000.

Tena also led Cruz Azul to the 2014 CONCACAF Champions League title in his fourth stint at the club.

The 61-year-old played at Chivas from 1983–1986, where he featured in their midfield.
