Oswaldo Alanís is proof that just because you are one of the best players in Mexico does not mean you’re going to have an unbelievable career in Europe.

After last year’s World Cup, Alanís joined ambitious LaLiga side Getafe after his deal at Chivas came to an end.

However, Getafe released the 23-time Mexican international centre-back and a week later, Alanís found himself at second-tier side Real Oviedo.

It appears likely that they Oviedo will once again miss the chance to compete for promotion to Spain’s top tier, as they are currently in eighth place, three points behind the promotion play-off places with three games left to play.

The last four matches, Alanís has appeared on the bench, which has fuelled rumours that he could make the return to Chivas should they miss out on promotion.

With Jair Pereira very likely to leave, Alanís could fill a very big hole as they prepare to fight against relegation.

Alanís won four trophies with Chivas in four years at the club: Two Copa MX, one Liga MX, and one CONCACAF Champions League title.
