In his first match at the helm, journeyman-manager Tomás Boy did not enjoy a successful honeymoon period.

His Chivas de Guadalajara side lost 1-0 on the road at Monarcas Morelia and even failed to end the match with the full complement of players.

Edison Flores scored the game’s only goal in the first half of what ended up being a rather physical contest.

Morelia’s 24-year-old winger lined up centrally and turned home a low cross from Cándido Ramírez inside the area in the 32nd minute.

At half-time the home team celebrated the 30th anniversary of their beloved venue.

The Morelos Stadium, affectionately called the Colossus of the Quinceo referring to a nearby volcano, officially opened on 9 April 1989 and the club set off a fair bit of fireworks to mark the event.

In the 81st minute, the task at hand got harder for the visitors. Attacking midfielder Isaác Brizuela earned a straight card for a lashing out at an opponent.

Aldo Rocha had challenged Brizuela shoulder-to-shoulder and after the Chivas player passed the ball off, he swung his left leg out to purposely strike Rocha.

Not only did Boy start his tenure in Guadalajara with a loss, but he will be unable to call on Brizuela while the attacker serves his suspension and the team drifts away from the Liguilla.
