The name Alfredo Talavera is absolutely synonymous with Toluca but Chivas want to bring him back to where it all began.

According to Record, 2019 Liga MX Clausura strugglers Chivas and Pumas will battle for over the 36-year-old’s signature for the upcoming Apertura campaign.

Talavera has been with Toluca since 2009 and is an absolute legend, featuring in a whopping 376 matches for Los Diablos Rojos, earning 111 clean sheets.

In addition, he has earned 28 caps for El Tri and was the starting goalkeeper for Mexico during the 2016 Rio Olympics, where they failed to make it past the group stage.

The biggest obstacle may be convincing Toluca to let him go with a year-and-a-half remaining on his current deal, despite remaining confident that 26-year-old Luis García is ready to take over full-time.

Chivas want to provide somebody that can not only provide Raúl Gudiño with excellent experience, but also fantastic competition as back-up goalkeeper Miguel Jiménez is set to leave the club this summer.

Alfredo Talavera began his career in the Chivas academy back in 2000 and made his first-team debut in 2003.
