Honours were even at the Akron Stadium as Chivas and the Gallos Blancos split the points on Sunday.

After a match in which Guadalajara dominated the statistics sheet, Querétaro found themselves with a life-line back into the contest in the closing minutes.

The home team thought they had the breakthrough when Walter Sandoval put away Isaác Brizuela’s service in the 64th minute. The referee adjudged the winger to be offside though replays suggested the goal should have stood.

Enigmatic forward Alan Pulido won a penalty in rather dubious circumstances. Pulido was leaning into centre back Luis Romo and threw himself to the ground under minimal contact.

Regardless of the validity of the call, Pulido scored from the penalty spot for what appeared to be a late-winner for Chivas in the 84th minute.

Unfortunately for the Rebaño Sagrado, their late lead did not hold.

Perhaps there was a bit of karmic justice in the Akron Stadium as Querétaro won a penalty of their own in the dying moments of the match.

Alan Cervantes tried to come through the back of George Corral inside the area and the full-back promptly went down. Brazilian forward Camilo Sanvezzo made no mistake to equalise from the spot in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

The draw did not specifically help either side but Querétaro will be the more pleased of the two sides. The Gallos Blancos sit just one point ahead of Chivas in the Liga MX Apertura 2018 table.

Guadalajara will be disappointed not to earn the win at home, especially after taking the lead with less than six minutes remaining in regulation time. The 18 total shots and 7 on target that the Rojiblancos tallied should provide a platform for their offense going forward.
