Jair Pereira reached a landmark with Chivas de Guadalajara this matchday ahead of the club’s busy week.

The captain of the Sacred Flock hit a personal milestone in his team’s match against Querétaro. While the teams snoozed to a 0-0 draw, Pereira registered his 150th official match for Chivas.

After breaking through to Cruz Azul’s senior team, Pereira transferred to Guadalajara in December 2013. Since the Clausura 2014 season, the centre back has proudly donned the rojiblanco shirt through some tumultuous times.

In the past five years, Pereira has grown into a leader on the squad and one of the more capable defenders in Liga MX.

The Chivas captain has now appeared 126 times in the league, 17 times in Copa MX, once in the Supercopa, four times in the Concacaf Champions League, and twice in the Club World Cup.

Before the start of the Clausura, there were rumours that the player was holding out for a better contract offer. All tensions subsided, however, when Pereira signed an extension in late November 2018 that will keep him at the club through the end of June 2020.

Speaking after training during the week leading up to the match in Querétaro, the team captain was determined to fix their run of form.

“The team is sad, we have to evaluate what each one of us is not doing and start correcting it. We are halfway through the tournament and we can not continue playing in this way.”

It is crucial for the team to rally ahead of Wednesday’s Copa MX match against heated national rivals Club América.

“It is like pulling an ear for us, figuring out what it is that needs to be fixed.”
