On Sunday, Flamengo thrashed Corinthians 4-1 in a day full of record-breaking performances to keep hold onto their eight-point lead over Palmeiras with just eight games to play.
Most impressively, Bruno Henrique broke the all-time Brasileirão record by scoring a hat-trick in less than four minutes, scoring goals at 45 + 1′, 45 + 2′, and in the 46th-minute.
Bruno Henrique became just the sixth player to ever record a hat-trick in meetings between the two sides, with Durval the first to do so in a five-goal effort back in 1949.
It was the first hat-trick scored between the two Brazilian giants in 18 years, but that was far from the only record set that day.
It was Flamengo’s 17th match in succession without a loss, equalling their club-record set back in 1980.
In just 30 matches, Flamengo earned their club-record 22nd victory of the season, bettering their mark of 21 from 2018
The rubro-negro are now likely to break the all-time Brasileirão record of 24 wins, set by Cruzeiro (2014), Corinthians (2015) and Palmeiras (2016).
“Happy for the three goals and even more for the victory,” the Brazilian said after picking up his man of the match award.
“It was a collective victory, collective. Everybody helping each other. This trophy goes to everyone.
“It’s thanks to the support of our fans that we play the way we’ve been playing. That’s what the manager always asks for, intensity.
“Intensity… delivery… this is not missing.”
Flamengo will have another intense match on their hands on Thursday when they face Botafogo in the Clássico da Rivalidade.
