With Leon Goretzka and Renato Sanches coming into the squad, Niklas Dorsch would have been hard-pressed to get the first-team minutes he craves in the Bayern Munich midfield.
The 20-year-old transferred to second-division side FC Heidenheim to get those minutes, signing a three-year deal. He was offered a new deal, but decided to leave Bayern after six years with the club.
In 2015, Dorsch was recognised as the second-best U-17 player in Germany, finishing as the runner-up for the Fritz-Walter Medal.
The Bayern Munich II captain, who scored the opening goal against Eintracht Frankfurt in a 4-1 win on April 29 in his only Bundesliga appearance, where he played the full 90 minutes.
Dorsch may have had a serious look if he had stayed in the squad, as he was an unused substitute in the Champions League semi-final away leg to Real Madrid.
