Headlines surrounding Arturo Vidal have not been great of late.

Plastered with stories of parties, alcohol and unprofessional behaviour, the Bayern midfielder had a lot to prove against Augsburg on Saturday.

And the Chilean star did just that and more.

Vidal plowed across the pitch with aggression and intent, reminding everyone of how dangerous he can be. One goal and one assist later, the 30-year-old playmaker was officially back.

Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes played a huge role in Vidal’s return to form.

“I had a one to one with him a couple of weeks ago,” reveals Heynckes. “I told him I wasn’t satisfied with his physical condition in general. I added that if he wanted to play he had to change something.

“He didn’t quite see it the same way as me, but from that moment he has changed his training methods. This week he was fantastic in training.

“I know what he is capable of from my time working with him at Bayer Leverkusen. I want him to play as he did in his first year there, scoring and working hard for the team. This is what I expect of him.”

Vidal didn’t initially respond well to his boss’ warning but he did train harder and the results were evident in Bayern’s 3-0 thrashing of Augsburg this weekend.

Although rumoured for a move away from the Bundesliga giants, for now Vidal remains a core part of Bayern’s squad.

Keep it up, Arturo!
