Napoli defender Mário Rui has insisted that wantaway Barcelona midfielder André Gomes should come and join him at Stadio San Paolo.

Gomes has struggled to make an impact at Camp Nou this season, starting just 11 games in all competitions for Ernesto Valverde’s side.

As such, the 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch away from the club this summer with the likes of Tottenham and Valencia thought to be keen.

However, Rui has claimed that his countryman should make the switch to Serie A in search of a career renaissance.

“André Gomes would be more than welcome at Napoli,” he told Sport.

“I don’t know anything official but if he comes he will find a lot of people who will receive them with care to make them feel at home in Napoli.”
