Atlas on pace to be the worst team in Liga MX history

Atlas are on the verge of history – for all the wrong reasons.

After nine matches in the 17-match Apertura season, Atlas are rock-bottom with just two points.

Even worse, they have only scored just once, and that goal didn’t come until the eighth match of the season.

The worst team in Liga MX history since the split-season era began in 1996-97 was Indios Juárez, who finished with just six points in the 2009 Apertura season.

That club only scored a measly seven times that year, tied for the worst total in history with the Atlas side that competed in the 2012 Clausura campaign.

Oddly enough, that Atlas side managed to earn 20 points and nearly made it the post-season.

In the 2003 Clausura campaign, Tecos managed to only accumulate seven points, a total that was matched by Querétaro that year in the Apertura.

If Atlas don’t find a way to get a win by the end of the season, they will surely go down as the worst team in Liga MX history.
