A veteran of Argentina’s tumultuous 2018 World Cup campaign, Meza will play outside his native country for the first time in his career.

Independiente officially thanked the 26-year-old for his services since arriving in 2016 from Gimnasia de La Plata. During his two-and-a-half seasons with El Rojo, Meza won the 2017 Copa Sudamericana and the 2018 Suruga Bank Cup.

Meza debuted for the national team in a 6-1 loss to Spain that earned him a place at the World Cup, where he featured four times.

His outgoing Argentine Superliga club also revealed that they would receive an additional €1.75m depending on personal performance landmarks.

The Rayados fell to Cruz Azul in the 2018 Apertura Liguilla semi-finals but have already shown their intent to improve the squad in the off-season.

Monterrey kick-off their 2019 Clausura campaign on 5 January against Pachuca.
