Giorgio Chiellini looks set to miss Italy’s friendlies with Argentina and England later this month with national team coach Luigi Di Biagio calling up West Ham’s Angelo Ogbonna in his place.
The Juventus defender came off in their 0-0 draw against SPAL on Saturday evening, with manager Massimiliano Allegri saying afterwards that he was suffering with ‘muscle fatigue’.
There has yet to be any official confirmation from the Italian FA as to Chiellini’s fitness, but Gazzetta Sportiva are repotting that the 33-year-old will almost certainly miss both games.
In any case, interim Azzurri boss Di Biagio has named West Ham’s Ogbonna as defensive cover – his first international call up since 2016.
It’s a surprise selection for the 29-year-old, considering the Hammers defensive displays this season in the Premier League.
