A former Liga MX manager has downplayed the importance of José Juan Macías to Chivas, and cast doubt over his chances of playing in Europe.
ESPN Deportes analyst José Luis Sánchez Solá claimed that Macías is not an “essential” player.
The 20-year-old striker came up through the ranks with the Rojiblancos, making his senior debut as a 17-year-old in 2017.
Macías was sent on loan to León for the 2019 season and was hugely impressive during his time with Los Panzas Verdes.
However, Sánchez Solá (commonly known as ‘Chelís) is not convinced by the Chivas attacker.
“Players like Zidane or Messi are pillars of a team,” Chelís said.
“Otherwise, the team is the mainstay and not the player.”
The 61-year-old, who had three stints as manager of Puebla, went on to claim that Macías returned to Guadalajara because León were unwilling to pay $15m for him.
Chelís also suggested that the Mexico international would need to prove himself in MLS before he could hope to earn a move to a European side.
