Luis Fernando Tena’s Chivas side will not have it easy against Dorados in the first leg of their round-of-16 Copa MX clash at the Estadio Akron on Tuesday night.

During their 2019 Apertura Ascenso MX campaign, Dorados only lost three of their 13 regular-season matches. However, they only won three games as well and ended up missing out on the Liguilla by two points.

During the 2019 Clausura, Dorados reached the Ascenso MX final but lost to Atlético San Luis in extra-time.

In the last edition of the Copa MX, Dorados, like Chivas, were eliminated in the quarter-finals, bowing out to Pumas 3-0 after upsetting Atlas on penalties in the round-of-16.

After the boom that saw Diego Maradona on the bench in Sinaloa for nearly a year, Dorados are experiencing a transitional stage both institutionally, now with José Guadalupe Cruz returning as their manager.

Cruz, who won the 2009 CONCACAF Champions League with Atlante, also managed Dorados in 2016, spending two years at Atlas in between.

Vinicio Angulo, Amaury Escoto, Fabián Bordagaray, Jesús Chávez, Fernando Elizari, and Julio Nava are their most outstanding players, though Gaspar Servio and Jesús Alonso Escoboza bring plenty to the table as well.

Dorados famously won the 2012 Apertura version of the tournament as a member of the second division, which was the first time the Copa MX was held in 16 years.
