On Thursday, former Chivas striker Alan Pulido, now with Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City, revealed why he left the Mexican giants.
In an interview with ESPN, Pulido explained how Chivas decided that José Juan Macías would become their new number one striker, leaving Pulido with little choice but to leave.
“I was never given the option to renew, and I understood their position. Maybe I wasn’t an indispensable player, so that’s why I asked to go out, to tackle new challenges and go after new dreams.
“They did not insist that I stay at Chivas or talk about renewing my contract.
“I think that at Chivas, I fulfilled the expectations that I set for myself: winning the championship and capturing the goals title.
“Although the club is being reinforced well, I try to close cycles and I am not a conformist, I try to find new challenges.”
Pulido then revealed why he chose Sporting Kansas City over all the other MLS offers that came his way.
“The reality is that other MLS teams were heard, but SKC approached me more than any other club. They convinced me.
“They told me that they wanted me to go there. That motivated me. That’s why I started to score goals at the end of the tournament, to be the Liga MX goal champion.
“The city convinced me and hopefully I will win an MLS Cup with them.”
After winning the Western Conference regular-season title in 2018, Sporting Kansas City finished second-bottom in the West last season.
