Peláez resigned as the sporting director of Cruz Azul last month and was previously president of Club América from 2011 to 2017.

Under his direction, Cruz Azul won the 2018 Copa MX Apertura and reached the Liga MX final that season as well.

While at América, the club made four Liga MX finals, winning two, and also won the CONCACAF Champions League on two occasions.
