América and Rayados appeared to have battled to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Liga MX final on Thursday night, but Rogelio Funes Mori had other plans.

Funes Mori waited until the 93rd minute to notch his 15th goal of the season in all competitions (his 28th in 2019) in SPECTACULAR fashion and gave Rayados a big 2-1 advantage heading into Sunday’s second leg.

América opened the scoring in the 45th minute courtesy of a very avoidable own goal, but Stefan Medina would score the equaliser a minute later.

Medina’s effort was initially ruled out by VAR, but replays would show he was indeed onside to level the match heading into the intermission.

Though América wanted to come out of the gate flying, they would be forced to fight an uphill battle for most of the second half as Sebastián Córdova was sent off in the 53rd minute for an inadvertant stamp.

With time running down, it appeared that it the two sides for a draw but Funes Mori had other ideas and connected perfectly on a spectacular overhead kick to give Rayados the 2-1 victory.
