The defending champions are off to a fantastic start in the Copa MX.
After coming out victorious in their 2019 Liga MX debut, Club América did the same in cup play, defeating 10-man Necaxa 2-1 at the Estadio Victoria on Tuesday night.
Eduardo Herrera gave Necaxa a 1-0 lead, however, MartĂn Barragán’s 78th-minute red card proved to be fatal as Cecilio DomĂnguez and Henry MartĂn would both score late goals to give AmĂ©rica an all-important victory.
Herrera scored on a thunderous header in the 14th minute to put the hosts ahead.
In the second half, everything got more complicated for the Aguascalientes after they were left with ten men when MartĂn Barragán was sent off in the 78th minute.
Five minutes later, after a penalty committed on Cristian Insaurralde, Cecilio Dominguez stepped up and converted his shot from 12 yards to level the score.
Three minutes later, Henry MartĂn slammed home a cross from Dominguez to give the Eagles all three points.
With this result, the Eagles reached three points in Group 4, tied precisely with Necaxa, who had beaten San Luis last week.
